EAST:NORTH//The Compass

EAST:NORTH // The Compass is an art project that aims at sharing perspectives and building networks through interdisciplinary collaborations between artists from different disciplines and countries. It is inspired by and builds on some of the questions that are explored in the traveling residency EAST-East African Soul Train, a creative adventure on East Africa’s historic railways. As a prototype, The Compass tested out an in-person/virtual collaboration approach with EAST artists and artists in Berlin at Werkhalle Wiesenburg in 2018. The concept seeks to extend the rigid structures of traditional residencies in exploring ways of how to share artistic experiences with a foreign art community as well as with the art community ‘at home’. The Compass furthermore aims towards connecting artistic communities across the globe to re-imagine perspectives and to create a new dialogue between them.
